A Child's World

The children are yearning for answers,
their cries are flooding pillows at night.
They search for answers in the music,
and find the rhythms repeat the same beat
over and over.

Time is spinning,
and the corner block has worn the soles
of those new Jordan sneakers.
The children are leaping tall buildings,
but the buildings are crumbling and no
Power Ranger can stop it from falling.
Will you build it again?

Can you build it again, so that the Big Bad
Wolf won't be able to blow it away?

The children are fighting a very old war,
the war of rejection and neglect,
and Barney never stood in the front-line
protecting the babies.
Will you be the blanket
and protect me from the storm,
now that the Ghost of persuasion
teases me with hope?

Dark Persuasion teases me with
love and affection, happiness and peace
self-worth and pride.
Will you guide me with
encouragement, so that Elmo
will laugh at those who never believed
that the children would survive?

Join me as I conquer a world
that didn't look to see if I
wore Tommy, Gucci, or Burberry.
A world that didn't look to see
if I wore an earring in my lip.
A world that admires me 'cause
my mommy never bought me Barbie.
